    "on" oder "in the internet" ?

    Hallo!

    Warum gebraucht man im englischen die Übersetzungen "in the internet" und "on the internet". Wo liegen die Unterschiede. Meine Recherche bei google.de ergab, dass "in the internet" 6,8 Mio. mal und "on the internet" fast 25 Mio. mal auf internationalen Webseiten auftaucht.

    Wo liegen die Unterschiede?

    Ich weiss nicht warum. Ich weiss nur, dass wir auch "on the phone" sind. I would
    say "I found it on the internet." or "I am on the internet right now."

    I don't think I would ever use the phrase "in the internet". To me that means I am physically surrounded by wire and cables.

    "In the internet" hört sich komisch an. Ich denke, dass ist nur dann halbwegs richtig, wenn es z.B. um Datenpakete oder um Leitungen geht.
    Aber Inhalte, Informationen, Angebote etc. sind immer "on the internet" (oder "on the web").

    Given the number of non-native speakers writing in English on the net, it's not very surprising to find so many people "in the internet".

    Most/many of the examples for 'in the internet'do not involve people 'in the internet' but are part of phrases like 'in the internet age', 'measuring distances in the internet', 'in the internet environment', and so on. All legitimate uses of 'in'.

    Christian: Bei Computersachen wird praktisch immer "on" verwendet:

    To work on the Computer
    to run a program on the computer
    It's not on the database
    to search sth. on the system

    Danke euch allen für eure Hilfsbereitschaft.
    Ich bin dadurch (ein wenig) schlauer geworden.

    So richtig kenne ich den Unterschied immer noch
    nicht aber all eure Erklärungen klingen plausibel.
