something was brought somewhere by someone

oder brought by someone somewhere

z.B: The carpet was brought to L.A. by Mr X

oder was brought by Mr. X to L.A

Finde die erste Version wesentlich besser, aber ist die zweite falsch?

I wouldn't consider the second version wrong, but maybe unusual. I would probably expect to see it in cases where more pertinent info follows the place something is brought to, for instance:

... was brought by Mr. X to LA where he has a big house with a living room that needs a carpet such as this one.

You wouldn't want to place "by Mr. X" at the very end of that sentence.
