Just a little research story, no query.
A 1905 picture postcard (couples dancing) bears the inscription: "The Veleta, arranged by A.F. Brown VPBATD."
Giggled it and out came a site on numerology:
"Meaning of VPBATD numerology analysis. This stands for association and the union of couples. It stands for duality in all categories(male or female). Symbolizes the partner in relationships. Related to female manifestation, whose esoteric meaning is the duality and fertility."
Stood back and mulled...does numerology go back to 1905? Topically fairly convincing, but would you print that on a postcard?
Just then, the other half ambled in with slice of toast in mouth and started mumbling: Vice President...something....British... something...ah.. Association... something... Dance
Where would I be without my crumb-spraying oracle?
Vice President of the British Association Of Teachers of Dancing
Fits, makes sense, organisation goes back to 1892.
Although I much prefer the more mysterious explanation...:)
