I fell compelled to say this, and I'm sorry in advance Leo!
I've tried to understand Leo's reasons and the more I read on Leo, the more I understand that there are needs to be protective and vigilant of certain reactionaries. For that I am thankful.
On the other hand, I feel that most non-registered users contribute greatly ... if not more openly ... if not adding more value to ... Leo.
I am against abuses and blatant slurs etc.
I.e., the non-registered community of Leo is a vital part of its essence. I've read the thread in the registered part:
Siehe auch: Land und Leute - nur eingeloggt nutzbar? It seems across the board, as does this very thread.
I don't claim to know what happens behind the scenes at Leo, but what I do know is that many people are very fond of Leo for its openness. It contributes to multi-cultural understanding in ways that many sites can not, because it spans languages. People can learn things on Leo that they may never have the chance to learn otherwise.
I contribute to Leo for that reason. It's tough to know what's behind any particular query, but I know that people are wondering, and are curious about this that and this other.
That's all not even to mention what I've learned looking at queries about things I've never heard of and delving in deeper and thinking: WOW, I've never though of that.
Leo is a blessing, and if there's a way to open up "Land und Leute" again. I think it would be for the greater good.
Peace, meep
