    I can't find this in any of my dictionaries; are you sure of the spelling? There isn't an entry for this spelling even in Credo online reference, which searches 568 reference books.

    Dieses Beispiel mit Napoleon wurde auch schon im ersten Link des OP angeführt. Also nichts Neues. Aber es fehlen Belege, die beweisen, dass das Wort nach 1928/1938 noch verwendet wurde...

    CM2DD hat die Schreibweise in Frage gestellt und nach einem Wörterbucheintrag gesucht (s. #1). Darauf habe ich geantwortet.

    I do trust the OED somewhat more than allwords.com.

    I wonder how popular this word has ever been? I see plenty of modern examples of it being used in the technological sense, including as a verb. In fact they probably drown out any examples of it being used with the meaning proposed. Makes it hard to work out if a "rare" or "dated" tag might be needed.
