My mom, dad, and I were all lifelong church choir singers, but Mom and I haven't been to church in recent years, since I moved back to help her through my dad's final illness and her small-city congregation has become so right-wing that we feel unwelcome. We miss sacred choral music a lot, and even our stereo amplifier isn't working at the moment, so we won't have CDs again until probably after the pandemic.

I wouldn't normally attempt to listen to YouTube, as it only deluges you with advertising, but just as a courtesy, could someone say what the city is, and what the music is that's being recommended?

SD3's post made me think of some elderly friends of ours who have a longtime favorite LP from a Bavarian town known for its Advent or Christmas music, whose name I've unfortunately long since forgotten, and the file was on some long-ago computer. Once years ago I made them a translation of the German text, which included some relatively unfamiliar carols. I remember there was also bell ringing, maybe after midnight mass. At that time I found traces of the album online, but no lyrics except on a Russian website that seemed dodgy even long before the current level of hacking. Does that ring a bell with anyone by any chance?

I got one or two hits searching on 'A Bavarian Christmas.' This one, for example, only turned out to be a bunch of YouTube links, but maybe they would please some of you YouTube fans.

Es singt der Münchner Motettenchor Macht hoch die Tür. Das Video lohnt sich, danke!

It's nice to know that some of you appreciated the Motettenchor's performance. I have a couple of the choir's recordings of Christmas music thanks to a friend who played in the choir's Bläserensemble during the Hans Rudolf Zöbeley era. I enjoy them every year around this time.

Thanks to those of you who provided extra links.
