    Typical VS Peculiar VS Characteristic

    Comment
I'd like to express that a certain behaviour is typical / peculiar / characteristc of/to/of unexperienced investors.

Which of the words above should I use?

    Thx in advance

Any of them; they mean the same thing.

I'm always wary of using the word "peculiar" like this.

Written test in an American junior school:
Q: Is the kangaroo peculiar to Australia?
A: No, but it sure is to us.

You do have to watch out that it doesn't sound like the other meaning of "peculiar", but in this sentence it doesn't, so it's fine. Commonly used in this meaning, like the others. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4S...
