    Ich hab schon im Forum bei "Deutsche Übersetzung gesucht", danach gefragt aber keine konnte darauf antworten.
    Was ich jetzt über den Bandnamen weiß ist folgendes:

    Eventually, they took the name Coldplay from a mutual friend, Tim who had his own band. According to Chris Martin, "He (Tim) decided he didn't like the name any more because it was too depressing."

    Coldplay: they took their name from a book of poems...that's it .

    Hat der name irgendeine Bedeutung? Wie hört es sich für einen native speaker an? ISt es tatsächlich "depressing"?

    ICh würd mcih echt freuen, wenn mir jemand da helfen könnte. Danke schonmal für alle Antworten!

    I don't know of any inherent meaning...maybe doing something cold-hearted? But to me it just sounds like a band name and not much else.

    I agree with Hanna, it seems to just be a "created" name for a band... I suppose you could argue that it has a slightly reserved, depressed ring to it though - because of the linking of "cold" and "play" as in play music, which imo would normally be more upbeat.

    The Coldplay website says "the original Coldplay took the name from a book of collected poems, Child's Reflections, Cold Play by Philip Horky."

    Thus it would appear that Horky coined the phrase "Cold Play"; but to find out what he meant by it, you'd have to search Google for something about that author and the book.

    I could get clobbered here again, but I've never hear this word except in the name of the band and the title of that book.

    The first poem of the book is called "Child's Play" and the last poem of the book is "Cold Reflections." Thus the title - "Child's Reflections, Cold Play."
