Here is the thread to which #19 refers:related discussion: Satzstruktur komplett?
About six contributors disagreed with one or another aspect of the position I take--not "a dozen."
A solitary grammar book was cited in reference to "a lot of"-- not "several." On the other hand, I cited two authoritative dictionaries that seem to support my position, in part.
No one has seen fit to contradict my final word in that thread.
I would like to find grammar books and authoritative, scholarly discussions on the question of "a lot of," but so far I've had no luck. In any case, linguists and grammar books not uncommonly disagree with each other, and I reserve the right to disagree with them as well.
In the present thread, there seems to be no disagreement that "have" is not a modal verb.
As for the other point of discussion, I do not seem to be alone in feeling that "I have to" requires a stated or implied complement and that to
belongs with the complement.
