"versucht sein" is the infinitive (Dictionary: versucht sein
), LEO also translates it "to be tempted to do sth.". For me (German native) it feels like an appropriate translation. "versucht" is related to "Versuchung" (temptation) and does not mean "to try" - "versuchen".
I think it is not a common expression, but definitely used, it sounds a little more sophisticated and probably more old-fashioned than "ich will immer (...) sagen", which has a very similar meaning. The combination with "immer" sounds odd, though, I would prefer "jedes Mal" (because "immer" is IMHO not correctly used).
(I was born mid-80s, and I also use "versucht sein" sometimes, when I choose the words more carefully.)
edit: I wouldn't use "ich will immer (...) sagen" anyway, because "wollen" is not frequently used in Austrian German that much, I would rather use "ich möchte immer (...) sagen".
