    D.C.

    Comment
I'm not qute sure, if this is the right forum for my question, by I'm desperately seeking to solve this riddle. Does anyone know what the abbr. D.C. behind the Name of an author could mean? I tried to find out by several online Abbreviation-Dicts, but found out nothing :-(
    ....
    ....
    ....
    George Ripley (D.C.1490)
    'Book of the twelve gates'

(Ripley died 1490, his birthdate is unknown; the quoted ('Book of...) is one of his works on alchemy)

Would really be thankful for any idaeas

"Died circa" is what I would expect it to mean. "d." for died and "c." for "circa" (Latin for "about"), which is abbreviated as "ca." in German (but not in English!).

@Mary: thanks, you helped me a lot and I'm sure, this is what it's meant to be.

I was going to say the same as Mary. One would have expected lower-case d.c., but I don't think that matters.

i never saw the designation d.c. - apart from direct current - anywhere but bow to the superior knowledge of people on this board.
