I wasn't thinking of it as a Bauernregel, but rather as a Wetterweisheit, which is after all the second part of the thread.
And here is an English saying (which purists may criticize as being a Gartenweisheit, rather than either a Bauernregel, or a Wetterweisheit) having to do with planting perennials: Sleep, creep, leap. It refers to the plant's growth pattern in the first, second, and third year. My neighbor adds and then leave in a jeep for the fourth year, presumably for those perennials that overrun the garden and have to be taken away. ;)
