no, its / it's is a different matter.
Group's can mean "group is", "group has" or "belonging to the group".

It's means "it is" or "it has". Belonging to it is "its"

If you want to say "it is" or "it has", then you have to write "it's". Otherwise write "its". "It is feet" doesn't make sense.

They boy's feet were big.

The boys' feet were big. (Plural).

The elephant was enormous. Its feet were as big as dustbin lids.

"It" is the exception to the normal genitive. Normally, we make the genitive using "'s", but with "it" we don't, we use "s". "It" is the only word where we don't use the apostrophe. So with "it's" and "its" we know if it the genitive or "it has" / "it is". But with all other words, we don't know.
