From the AE perspective:
My (late) grandmother was the "purest" person I have ever known--and she never swore or told off-color jokes, etc. Yet, if the referenced list were to obtain, she would be considered in violation of her own high standards: She often used the word "crap." And so do I. In this slapdash, slipshod world, I find it hard to avoid crap. It's pervasive; and when I encounter crap, I often say so.
To call something "crap" is definitely not a compliment, but I do not consider the word to be offensive or generally inappropriate in informal communication.
Many of the British terms were utterly new to me. And IMO, virtually no American would know the expression Beef c****** (for example). It sounds funny to me, and for that reason I wanted to say it here, but decided against it. If I heard someone say "Beef c******," I would probably laugh just because it sounds funny. (I also might suspect the speaker had just suffered a stroke or similar malady, or that s/he just likes coining expressions made of unlikely word combinations.)
