Markus, I'm sorry the down arrow didn't work, but thank you very, very much for trying. (It was wonderful for two days -- a huge difference -- even though there was still no way to get back to the top of a thread quickly.)
I'm also sorry that the 'find on page' problem, where it automatically seems to trigger some kind of page resize and possible crash, seems to be a Safari problem on the iPad. I had no idea that there could still be basic issues like that with such a widely used program as Safari. (Though it seems to be basing itself on sizing the text content to fill the screen, which otherwise wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, would it? Indeed, it's basically what we have to do manually on every page in order to use LEO on the iPad at all, not to mention the iPad Mini, to get the text to a readable size.)
Moving on, here are some more things I've noted in the last few days.
For a couple of days now, the login has seemed less stable again, being logged off again more often unexpectedly, when the login used to remain more or less indefinitely without JS, which was a good thing.
Also, just now something seemed to go wrong with the login: I got a stack of repeated red box error messages 'Leider ist ein Fehler ...getreten' (auf-? ein-?) in the middle of the screen, and I couldn't continue until I clicked each of them away, though after that I was (surprisingly) successfully logged in. There seemed to be a thinnish light-blue line trying to load at the top of the page, appearing to move from left to right, not inside the browser field for the URL where a thin gray line normally shows 'page loading' by growing from left to right, but between the line of gray browser tabs and the yellow bar with the forum menu items in it. That looks like some kind of a bug.
I've had problems with page loading on other pages -- IIRC mainly when I try to post -- where that thin gray line that's supposed to grow from left to right inside the URL field is completely missing, so it's not clear whether it even received my touch command and is loading something, or whether I need to hit the same button again. It would be helpful if there was a more standard visible sign that something is happening such as a page loading -- that is, the same standard growing line used in iPad Safari on all other websites.
What I dislike, in contrast, is a little red rotating half-circle that seems to show frequently, in some random location in the middle of the page, whenever an occasional page is loading unusually slowly. As far as I can remember, it doesn't seem to show immediately as soon as you click on a link, only a moment or two later.
There also is something different about how internal LEO links seem to open more often now in a separate tab, whereas previously only user profiles did that and all other pages always opened in the same tab.
Also, the lists of threads within the individual forum sections still are missing several items from the information that shows in the homepage -- time of posting, number of posts, etc. Previously I believe the formatting was exactly the same as on the homepage, which was helpful.
One point that's very minor but that should at least be easy to fix -- on the homepage, the German version correctly shows 1 Antwort, 2 Antworten, but the English version shows 1 Followup, 2 Posts, with German capitalization. I would suggest 1 post, 2 posts.
I am not in the group who are noticing much slower loading times. It does often seem a little slower, but we are also using only cellular data at the moment because we have had both a desktop computer and a router bite the dust, so it could just be that.
I am in the group that would prefer to keep copied text unformatted in all text entry fields. If copiable formatting could be restricted to, say, bold & italics, that might not be a problem, but especially links with external formatting are basically a menace, since they prevent you from seeing the actual URL.
I also notice that it is now harder to copy a complete LEO link, such as a link to a particular numbered forum post, in its full, visible format. I would like all LEO URLs to stay in full written-out form for copying and pasting as the default, so that we can still easily see all the parts. I don't want to just click on a link entitled, e.g., '#285' unless I can see which thread it's from -- and conversely, it needs to be written out in full in order to trigger the internal LEO transformation that will later show 'Siehe Wörterbuch' or 'Siehe [thread title].'
The edit function has become considerably harder to use. Without JS it seems buggy -- the same text in about 2/3 of the main text box on the right-hand side, and another copy of it in a smaller vertical box (about 4 cm tall by 3 cm wide, with rounded corners?) on the left-hand side. If you try to edit from this situation, it strips out all the spaces after paragraph breaks, so that there is no visual break between paragraphs. So basically, you now have to turn JS on to edit as well as to post.
Also, I know you have already heard this many times, but it is so important that I feel it can't be overemphasized: I really, really wish the text entry field were not so narrow from top to bottom. The 'mailbox window slot' is constricting enough just for reading page content, but it's even worse for text entry. That annoying field 'E-Mail Benachrichtigung aktivieren,' which belongs somewhere much farther away such as in the user profile, takes up a full centimeter of valuable vertical space, when it could at least have been set off to the side under 'Kommentar' in some of that unused white space. (Of course on a touchscreen the onscreen keyboard itself takes up about half the space, and it's true that I could always just hook up the Bluetooth external keyboard. But it was nice not to have to do that, to be able to use LEO just sitting in an armchair or on the sofa.)
Again, I just wish the overriding principle could just be how to make as much space as possible usable for user-generated content on each page, whether for reading or writing. I still think a better design answer to that was, as in earlier versions of the forum, just to use the basic HMTL page for as much of the content as possible so that only the minimum has to be inside another frame with another scrollbar. But if frames and scrollbars are what we have to have, anything that makes the text content space bigger and the space outside the text smaller could be at least a small improvement.
I keep noticing occasional smaller things that I don't always have time to write down, and I haven't even tried to use the translation sections yet, much less New / Wrong Entry. And I have probably been logged off in the time it took to compose this. I wish at least an hour could be the minimum login period, because it's not uncommon to be writing and need to stop and do something else and come back a few minutes later.
I'm not proofreading this much because it's so hard now to scroll back through one's own post. I have to confess that my approach now is to save things up and write a long post later, composing elsewhere such as in NotePad, rather than to write short individual posts immediately. So on that front, if the intent was to discourage longer posts, the effect has been somewhat the opposite.
But again, thank you very much for taking time here to read and respond to comments, and for being willing to consider a range of options.
