I agree, Marines are a whole different animal.
But wouldn't a boot camp, where every new Marine recruit must pass through, be actually the perfect place to observe what kind of people make up that military branch?
I regularly visit the various bases Kaiserslautern, Ramstein/Landstuhl, Darmstadt, Rhein-Main (when it was still open), Heidelberg, Wuerzburg, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Grafenwoehr - It is fascinating to observe the differences among Army and Air Force, the facilities, amenities, housing, the racial/nationality make up. And the inferiority complex some of my Army friends get when they are around Air Force people.
There is also this facet of the Army concerning the Hispanic and African American soldiers - where they create difficulties for each other, give each other gate duties, withhold leave approval, lose important paperwork, all as a way of ruling over the other.
The military appears to be separate society all to itself.
