IIRC, Electric Barbarella recommended this shop somewhere.

Thanks, I missed that. I want to place quite a large order and thought I'd check.

Ist ein netter Laden, der in Köln schon länger existiert (10 Jahre oder länger, schätze ich).

Might be good to wait a few more hours to see if E.B. (or maybe Chaja, Solitudinarian or someone else from the Cologne area) can confirm my vague memory.

And if it's good, maybe I should consider ordering there too.

what do you mean by "good"?
I have been there and my Brit even more often to buy unmentionables such as Branston and Marmite. It is quite small, so it wouldn't warrant a special trip all the way from Dresden, but if you mean reliable, as Mattes says, it's been here for ages, so I would assume you could safely give them your credit card details and what not.

It's nice, but pricy. A great source for Newcastle Brown Ale, but no longer for Scrumpy Jack, alas. The microwave food is very tasty, but ungodly expensive - however, it's free after the expiration date is up. And they have the best selction of chips (yes, yes, I know - "crisps") in town.

Just not a bloke with sunglasses selling things with the best-before date scratched off, I guess... I did a survey of several online shops, including the price and this one won (very cheap tea, good range including piccalili, Marmite, multipack crisps, cider, looks professional). Still, I wanted to hear about it from the horses' mouths.

Solitudinarian, our local Getränkemarkt is selling Newkie Brown, too. The Karstadt food hall used to have it as well, but I haven't been there in ages.
Oh, and totally OT, but it is SNOWING! Hooray!

Meh, snow. It's great in the countryside, but it's nasty in the city (unless you wake up to it - and even then only for about an hour or so).

But tanja1, just where would your fabulous, Newkie-carrying Getränkemarkt be?

(naff name, I know). They're in Nippes. Online they don't seem to have it, but you could always send them a mail. Last year, they had crates of the stuff on the actual premises.

I've ordered stuff online from there a few times and the delivery was fast and correct. They were actually cheaper (both products and delivery) than some of the other Englich/Irish on-line shops, and you don't get plagued with advertising mails when you register with them.

    @ tanja1,

Sounds good - I'll have to check it out. By the way, you live in Nippes? That's only a hop, skip, and jump away. For some reason, I thought you were in the Südstadt.

Dragon, your memory is very accurate :-)
I have bought things from there a couple of times, even though I never ordered anything from there. I go there when I am shopping in Cologne anyway, but being withiout a car, I don't do a special trip (from Bonn). What other people have said is right - they are expensive but some things you cannot get at German supermarkets.

Just thought I'd report back on my online shopping expedition - I bought a load of things for myself and some friends, and everything arrived very quickly (within a few days) and well-packed.

Some of the prices are quite high, but some are actually very reasonable, and to be honest, I didn't pay a lot more than what you'd probably pay in a shop in Britain - prices do tend to be higher there.

Thanks for reporting back and letting us know! I do like going there just before Christmas when they have gorgeous cards, crackers and pudding in stock! ;-)
