Yes, it is possible. But don't do it. It will be outrageously expensive. Buy a calling card in San Francisco. They are widely available at airports and convenience stores. Even the ones with the most expensive rates will be much cheaper than a collect call. You can probably even buy a card in Germany that can be used in the U.S.
