All I can help you with is a neat podcast. It's the morning show with 'Eric & Kathy' at the station WTMX from Skokie, Chicago.

I love this morning show and listen to it every single day when I'm driving to work. Let me know if you have problems finding it (if you are interested that is) The show itself is about 5 hours I think. Podcast will be like 30 minutes.

Where can I get the podcast?

You can get it at iTunes. It's free. All you have to do is subscribe to it and it will download daily. I think the podcast is one day behind compared to the radio version playing in here in Chicagoland.

A lot of colleges and universities have student-run radio stations with live audio streaming and/or podcasts. If you like alternative music (sometimes really alternative), that could be a fun option.

I listen to BFBS radio here in Germany. It's also on the internet, though I get it on cable or with the antenna (I don't have cable in the kitchen!)
www.bfbs.com and the rest is explained there. It's pretty much for all age groups and I've enjoyed listening for 25 years or so now.

Slightly OT:
Whenever I travelled in the USA, the last time however about 6 years ago, I enjoyed listening to a man carried by many stations who daily told interesting stories from around the world, had, towards the end of each broadcast, a "for what it's worth" item and signed off with a jolly "good day!"
Can any of you US-folks tell me the gentleman's name, give me information if he is still around and, if so, where I can listen to him on the web?

OT @Werner: This is just a guess, but maybe Paul Harvey? He's been around a long time, but is still popular among the older generation.

@Snowflake: I should have said, maybe it would help to describe what Drs3 and Radio7 broadcast. If you're more interested in commercial radio, including current music and entertainment gossip, you might try an internet search using terms such as Top 40, morning radio, talk radio, etc.

Drs3 ist ein Schweizer Sender.
sendet vor allem Musik, charts, eher für Publikum ~20.
Ab und zu auch kurze Nachrichten und Sendungen, z.B Gewinnspiele.
Radio7, ist ein Deutscher Sender, der ungefähr dasselbe sendet.

As said above, check out This American Life. I think it's the best radio show in America. It's a national show from Chicago.

Car Talk is something that you might find interesting. People call in to ask questions about their cars. But it's not just a mechanic show. The hosts have Massachusetts accents.

The Radioio "stations" offer nearly all musical tastes, including "Pop", which may better suit the request for "Jugend-Radio".

If you have Windows Media Player, click on "Media Guide" and then "Internet Radio/Tuner" - there you can search for stations according to musical style and language/country.

Listening to 'This American Life' this morning, I had the belated feeling that non-natives could find it a bit daunting. The host, Ira Glass, often speaks very quickly and not very clearly, and the timbre of his voice may take some getting used to. But he usually only does the introduction and the transitions, so if you can wait for the actual features, they may be easier to follow. Today the first story was actually from a prize-winning Irish radio program -- fun accents. (-:

NPR has a lot to offer, as others have pointed out. Many of their big programs are available via podcast.

I second the recommendation for "Car Talk" (http://www.cartalk.com/); the show is simply hilarious! I like Garrison Keilor's "A Prairie Home Companion", but would caution that it is targeted more at the middle-aged crowd. "This American Life" is often to quirky for my taste, although they do have some fascinating stories. On weekends, I also enjoy the news quiz show "Wait, wait, don't tell me!" (http://www.npr.org/programs/waitwait/)

As for call-in shows, I am partial to KQED's Forum (with Michael Krasny) which is also carried on Sirius and is available via podcast. It does cover a fair amount of local topics though, which are of little interest to people ourside the Bay Area or California. The most interesting bits for a general audience are probably when Michael invites authors to talk about their latest book.
