| Kommentar | Thank you for all that information i got for a simple question! special thanks to eviz, odondon irl, Archfarchnad -gb- for the facts about soother, dummies and dodos.
@all perfect speakers: Please check your daily use of your mother tongue. Surely you will find out, that no german speaks always correct (e.g. der/die/das Holster/Nutella/Ponny, correct use of subjuncive (Deutsch ist eine würde - lose Sprache), Plusquamperfekt, Futur I und II). I'm afraid, but perhaps I shouldn't talk anymore with my daughter? Not even in my native tongue!
@all nosy people: In my job I have to care for our international franchise partner and foreign customers. Franchisees are Finland, Denmark, Russia, Rumania, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Estonia, Hungaria, Austria, Italy, France, Spain. in the next 3 years we roll out 32 further countries in Europe as Irland, UK, Begium, Turkey, Greek! Customers that call or eMail me are from all over the world. So, I have to speak and write english more than 8 hours per day! During my education I stayed in Ames, Iowa (USA), London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Gretna (UK) and Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Dublin, Navan (IRL). Everywhere I was able to find my way. I spoke to the people, I lived with them and i wasn't afraid to make mistakes in grammer or words vokabular! These says taught me more than my 3 teachers in 8 years on 2 schools taught me. my marks were always bad but the A marks were not able to communicate! In front of all the English corrected me on a very polite way. I never found such a behaviour in Germany! Also my wife and me plan to move to Irland. (I think our english can't be so bad). In my family I always speak english to give my daughter a fixed point for english. If I'm not sure I ask my wife first or check the internet and dicionaries. In my family we learned spanish, italian, english, irish (gaelic), hebrew, old greek, latin, finnish, danish, netherlands, french. And I learned 6 of these languages. The only language I want to teach my child for a better start into business is english! I think that is no fault, is it?
AND: the best time to learn a language is between birth and the age of 7. In that time the needed area in the brain is most active. When does we start with our first foreign language in Germany? before or after that age? If we don't move to Irland before, my daughter will go to a bilingual nursery and elementary school. So what do you think now??
@ Archfarchnad: Thank you for the helpful link!!! @ sharper: Thank you for your offer. Our friends and me are going to use it!
