    can anyone explain the semantic differences?

    continual is repetitive, but with interruptions in between, right?
    continuous is constantly without interruptions, right?

    what about continuing?

    you're right about continuous;
    continual is "without interruptions," but something that occurs on a regular or frequent basis, and I guess that's what you meant, too.
    continuing means to remain in force or being carried on without let-up, e.g.
