    wage oder wages?

    Comment
Es geht um Ronaldo, den Manu-Star, der sich ein neues Auto gegönnt hat:

The Phantom (das Auto), kitted out with all the trimmings, will cost the Portuguese star less than one month's wages.

Wieso wages und nicht wage? Es geht doch um seinen Lohn?

    Warum Mehrzahl?

The saying originated from the times when the wages were paid on a weekly basis ( as in Wochenlohn) which translates to 4 paychecks per month, hence " one month's wages. Otherwise it would be " One month's salary."

It´s always the plural form! It´s the same with police or thanks.
