    Is there a contrary to "skyrocketing"?
    If so, what is it?

    Context: The charts were expected to skyrocket. Instead, they now have dived.

    I just thougth that "dive" was a bit of an understatement.

    "[...] Instead, they now have plummet."
    Would be correct, then?

    Charts can't really skyrocket or plummet - figures can, though...

    @six:
    And why can't they? Isn't "chart" but another word for a curve on a graph?
    skyrocketing: slope increases a lot in a short time --> new peak lies a lot higher than before ("in the sky")
    plummeting: contrary

    @Helmi:
    I love your expression. ^^
    However, I doubt it's suitable for business talks.

    If you mean "curve", why not say "curve"?

    "Chart" is not the same.

    A chart can't plummet unless it falls off the conference table and out the window. A chart is a way of representing information and refers to the whole. The figures on the chart plummet as shown by the rising or falling curve.
