    'has gone' vs 'is gone'

    Kommentar
    Good morning!
Is it as correct to say 'He is gone' as it is to say 'He has gone'? If yes, is there a difference in both meanings? When I want to say 'Er ist weg', which expression would I use? The issue is that in colloquial speech one would say 'He's gone', which I heard often, but there one doesn't make any distinction between 'has' and 'is'. :-)

Yes, there's a definite distinction in meaning. Consider it in the plural: “they're gone” means sie sind weg, i.e. it emphasizes the absence, “they've gone” means they have departed, i.e. it emphasizes the movement away.

    Thanks, Steve. That's what I was thinking. But I wasn't 100% sure.
