A recent thread posted by Selkie (Siehe auch: Surprised by pronoun gender
) raised this question in my mind.
This is similar to the problem raised by "Was hältst Du vom Mädchen da drüben; es scheint mir sehr hübsch."
As a non-native speaker, I've sometimes been puzzled about how to write about "die Person". For example, this sentence would seem logical: "Was soll eine Person machen, wenn sie zum Priester werden will?" (I might have a usage error in that sentence, but I think you understand the point I'm making.)
In speaking of "eine Person" who is a man, how would the sentence or paragraph proceed? Would the sentence continue with "sie/ihr" based on the grammatical gender of "die Person"? Or would the sentence continue by using the logical sex of the person (er/ihn/ihm/sein) instead?
