A2 Restricted Motorcycle Licence
The A2 restricted motorcycle licence is designed for those people aged 17 or above who want a full motorcycle licence, but do not see themselves riding a high powered bike within the next 2 years.
You can take your A2 motorcycle test on either a manual or automatic motorbike. If you choose take your test on a manual motorcycle, you can ride either manual motorcycles or automatics, however if you take your test on an automatic, you will be limited to automatics.
Once you pass your A2 restricted test, you can then ride any motorbike or scooter of your choice (regardless of engine size). However, as the A2 licence is a restricted licence, the power output of your bike for the first 2 years of obtaining your licence must not exceed 33bhp (25kw). Once you have held your A2 restricted motorcycle licence for 2 years, the restriction of 33bhp (25kw) is automatically removed, and you are then allowed to ride any powered motorcycle/scooter of your choice. If you wish to have the restriction removed before your 2 year period expires, you can do this by taking the Accelerated Access Scheme.
