Zeilenabstand ist wirklich der Abstand zwischen Zeilen, also wenn du in Word auf Absatz - Zeilenabstand doppelt/1,5 Zeilen/einfach gehst. Leerzeichen bekommst du dagegen mit der Space-Taste. Zu einem einzelnen Leerzeichen kann man auch Leerschritt sagen.

Double-spacing / two spaces before a period (AE) / full stop (BE).

I don't double space (although I can't say it particularly bothers me when others do), but I am sometimes asked about it by older (50+) Germans who learned to double space in English letters when they were at commercial college.

Basically, I just needed the German translation for an article about this phenomenon, and I now have it. So thanks again.

In proofreading, we frequently talk about "doppelte Leerzeichen" - i.e. making sure to eliminate all "doppelte Leerzeichen" in a text (no matter if they come after/before a full stop or between two words in the text).

But this might well be "translator speak" or something people in Southern Germany tend to say :)
