Messestand = booth in the US, but I'm not sure about the UK.

Helmi's translation is good, and it gets at the "Tätigkeit" aspect, which mine didn't. (Note to self: read more carefully before typing.)

I can think of two possible improvements on Helmi's version: "trade show" rather than "fair" (which isn't used in the US in this context), and "staffing" rather than "attending to" (which implies taking care of the booth itself, but not necessarily of the people who visit it).
