    not one's own

    Quellen
People usually speak with an accent when they speak in a language not their own.

It takes awhile to know my way around when I'm in a city not my own.

Does German have an adjective that means "not one's own" - something like nicht-eigen?

It's certainly possible to express this idea with more words ("eine Sprache, die nicht ihre eigene ist"). But I wonder whether there's a single word.

    Thanks.

    First idea :
... nicht in ihrer eigenen Sprache ...
    ... nicht zuhause sind ...

If you want 1 word then I guess simply "fremd".

What's up with the tete-a-tete between you and penguin, eric? It's ongoing.
