this may depend on the context. Cars are "painted", for instance, even if they're "lackiert" in German. Either of your two suggestions is also possible.

I don't know the context and it may be that "glossy" is what you want here. I associate "glossy" with its opposite, "matt", for example when discussing paint finishes or printing photographs.


Could another possibility for glänzend when talking of paint colours be brilliant as in "brilliant white"? Just a thought. Depends on the context.

In AE at least, "glossy" is fine for paint.
