    Bleigießen (Silvester)

    Kontext/ Beispiele
Any ideas what this could be in English??
It's where you melt little lead figures in a spoon on New Year's Eve to see what the year ahead will bring...a form of fortune-telling.

There are a few Google hits for "lead pouring" (also from native speakers), but I doubt that anybody unfamiliar with this German tradition will know what you are talking about. So you're probably going to have to describe what Bleigießen means.

The method originates in ancient Greece[3] and it became a common New Year tradition in the Nordic countries and Germany (German: Bleigießen, "lead pouring"), Switzerland and Austria, known as Silvester.[4] Classically, tin is melted on a stove and poured into a bucket of cold water. The resulting shape is either directly interpreted as an omen for the future, or is rotated in a candlelight to create shadows, whose shapes are then interpreted. ...

#3: Use that word and people will have even less of an idea what you are talking about than if you were to say "lead pouring" -- or even "Bleigießen." ;-)
