For me, a "retail chain" is a group of retail stores that are all owned by the same company (e.g. Walmart is a retail chain).

@ingo: By the way, my Google search on "sales chain" gave only 17,000 hits (compared with 51,000,000 for "supply chain"). I'm not sure how you got all those hits.
