A pharmacy is a smaller unit of a drugstore or supermarket, where the prescription drugs are dispensed (with the over-the-counter ones on store shelves). The drugstore or supermarket itself might stay open 24 hours, but the pharmacy component might close for the night. In England I have indeed heard drugstores called "the chemist's," e.g., "I'm going to the chemist's."
