Yes, same abbreviation, but it's "cubic metres" (or "meters" in AE). "Square metre" (m²) is "Quadratmeter".

    Kontext/ Beispiele
The cubic meter, also called the meter cubed, is the unit of volume in the International System of Units. The symbol for cubic meters is m3. Less formally, cubic meter is sometimes abbreviated cu m.

    Also "cu m" oder "m^3".

    Vorschlagcu m, m3, m^3 or m**3, or cbm
    Quellen
It is sometimes abbreviated cu m, m3, m^3 or m**3 when superscript characters or markup are not available/accessible (i.e. in some typewritten documents and postings in Usenet newsgroups).

Abbreviated CBM in the freight business and MTQ (or numeric code 49) in international trade.

m^3 is less common in AE but you do see in in technical/scientific circles. For the average, non-technical person it's usually "cu. m" or even "cu. meter" since half the population here wouldn't know what "m" stands for!
