*Men hunt isn't correct; manhunt is a word, but I'm not sure how best to say a hunt for many men. Maybe others will have an idea.

'Sound the horn for' in this figurative sense is understandable in context, but I think in English we would probably use a different word, like 'may signal the start of a mass manhunt,' 'may set off widespread persecution,' 'may incite people to violence against gay men,' etc.

Ich bin perplex!! :-O Das ist das erste mal, dass ich höre, dass sich irgendein Englisch-Muttersprachler von einer Wortdoppelung inkonveniert fühlt. :-)

'Witchhunt' scheint mir zu weitgehend, da es die Elemente 'Fanatismus' und 'Gnadenlosigkeit' beinhaltet.

I don't think "manhunt" fits; "hunt" implies search; but, "Uganda's newspapers published a list of the top 200 gay people in the country,"; these people are not being sought. The purpose of the publication is presumably to encourage harrying.

@9 Mein Migrationshintergrund mag teilweise österreichisch sein, aber das Wort habe ich woanders aufgeschnappt. Ich dachte es sei recht gebräuchlich. Ich gebe zu, für Netzsprech ist es etwas unhandlich und daher vllt. etwas in die Tage gekommen.

@7 Stimmt. Ich hatte mich auf #0 in einer wörtlichen Interpretation bezogen, und den Kontext in #2 überlesen :-(
Mit #2 würde ich im Sinne von "zum Abschuss freigeben" "declared fair game" vorschlagen. Ob daraus eine veritable Hexenjagd wird, steht m.E. noch aus.
