Since you wrote "Professor," I assume the sentence continues with: ...at the University of... (should read either, during my sophomore year, or in my...).

Ich hatte Vorlesungen bei Prof. während "my sophomore year"??? Wie hast Du ´sophomore year übersetzt? 4. Semester??

Na ja, ich hätte vielleicht "2. Studienjahr" genommen, aber 4. Semester ist vermutlich besser. Danke für den Tipp.

henna-lisa, viele deutsche Universitäten haben auch eine englische Version auf ihre Webseiten - wenn das der Fall sein sollte, dann würde ich mich an ihre Terminolgie halten.

Da ein Semester nur ein halbes Studienjahr ist: während des 3. und 4. Semesters/2. Studienjahrs. Beides geht. Ebenso im + Dativ.

mbshu, Not necessarily, because the university systems (used to) differ immensely (der Ewigestudent, bsw.). It's been awhile, since I last worked at a university here in Germany (as their ERASMUS-Programmbeauftragte), and they were just beginning to introduce Bachelor/Master studies. In the US, at least, freshman, sophomore, junior, senior years have been established for decades, if not centuries :-)) In 1999, Germany was still using 1., 2., usw. Semester...and I still see it used in the certificates I tranlate, which is why I invariably check out the respective website to see whether they've defined an English term.
