Comment | mbshu, Not necessarily, because the university systems (used to) differ immensely (der Ewigestudent, bsw.). It's been awhile, since I last worked at a university here in Germany (as their ERASMUS-Programmbeauftragte), and they were just beginning to introduce Bachelor/Master studies. In the US, at least, freshman, sophomore, junior, senior years have been established for decades, if not centuries :-)) In 1999, Germany was still using 1., 2., usw. Semester...and I still see it used in the certificates I tranlate, which is why I invariably check out the respective website to see whether they've defined an English term. |
