...and x-rated is certainly not outdated, at least not here in the U.S. In fact, it has become a rather general term, also in speech, as a shorthand way to say that something -anything- is explicit in a sexual way. Which in the notoriously prudish U.S. sometimes doesn't mean much more than "Beware: Genitals are visible or mentioned".

In and of itself it can have either a positive or a negative connotation depending upon context.
