One other phrase that comes to mind is 'on the rebound.' I'm not sure if that works exactly in the situation you describe or if it might be more after the ball bounces off of something, like a player or one of the goalposts.

My hunch is that in English, commentators tend to focus more on the original miss than on saving after an initial error. They might use a word like 'bobble' or 'fumble' if the keeper was unable to get a secure first grip on the ball.

But 'rebound' and 'rebounder' do seem to be used for certain products that players can use when training alone, just to bounce balls off of. Not sure exactly how any of them work, but maybe it's safer and less noisy than just using something like a wall or the garage door.
