    Guten Tag,
    ich komme aus Deutschland und arbeite im Kraftwerk Mehrum als Schichtleiter. Wir sind das Partnerschaftskraftwerk von Ratcliffe. Wir würden gerne genauere Informationen zum Unfall vom 30.06.06 bekommen.
    Wir hoffen das es den Verletrzten besser geht. Ist das Kraftwerk mitlerweile wieder angefahren oder dauert die Reparatur noch an? Ich habe gelesen das am 13.07.06 ein Tag der offenen Tür geplant war. Ich habe Interesse, wenn ein neuer Termin feststeht daran teilzunehmen.

    I've read, it was planned a guided tour in ratcliffe, at 13.July 06. I've vested interest, at it a new date to attend a meeting.

    Du hast uns nicht gesagt, in welcher Form Du kommunizieren willst. "Good day" ist jedenfalls keine gute Idee, wenn die Nachricht nicht nach Australien geht. Besser "Dear Sir or Madam".

    1.) Auch möglich als Einstieg: I work as a supervisor at the Mehrum power station in Germany.
    2.) "Strategic partnership" kommt mir ungünstig vor. Es kann zwar eine solche Verbindung BESTEHEN, aber ich weiß nicht, ob man eine SEIN kann. Wobei ich mich da auch gerne eines besseren belehren lasse.
    Eventuell: We are associated with the power station in Ratcliffe. (Geht aber bestimmt noch besser.)

    Kommunizieren ist gut, ich bin froh, wenn ich mich überhaupt irgendwann mal, halbwegs verständlich in England ausdrücken kann.

    joe and Werner, euer schönes Englisch will ich nicht verbessern,

    aber vom Sinn her müssten die "injured persons" doch in der Mehrzahl auftreten.

    Und AH, nextime würde sich manch Auge freuen, wenn im deutschen Text
    "Wir hoffen daSS es den Verletzten ... habe gelesen daSS" ein Doppel-S stünde.

    No, in this context, "we are a strategic partnership of..." is completely wrong. (Don't be too quick to trust Werner's English!) A partnership consists of a number of partners. Only when speaking for all the partners can one say "we are a partnership".

    If the partnership consists of a number of corporate entities, a person speaking on behalf of such an entity can legitimately say "we are a partner", where the pronoun "we" refers to the corporate entity.

    Hallo Joe, und ganz genau müsste man doch hinter hoffen ein "," setzten oder ?
    Aber auch egal.
    Ich nehmen an, dass du zu Hause gemütlich vor dem PC sitzt und Spaß an diesem Forum hast. Für meinen Teil kann ich nur sagen, dass ich zur Zeit auf der Arbeit bin und die Zeit nutze, um nebenbei überhaupt Englisch zu lernen.
    Wenn Du Lust hast schaue unter Kraftwerk Mehrum.de, da kannst du sehen und vieleicht auch verstehen, dass "beides" gleichzeitig nicht immer leicht ist.

    A few more details:

    (1) Netzspannung's "I work as a supervisor at the Mehrum power station in Germany" is excellent! Better than my suggestion.

    (2) ad.joe is right. Sorry I missed the dative plural. I think you should say (informally) "I hope the people who were hurt are feeling better now" or (more formally) "I hope the injured are recovering well." There are obviously other possibilities too.

    (3) I rather like Jenny's "I read that an Open Day was planned for 13th July 2006. Please inform me if you fix a new date so that I can attend" - also better than my original suggestion.

    (4) Finally, another reason to disagree with Werner. I would only use "Dear Sir/Madam" in the most extremely formal commmunications. When writing to another member of an organisation or partnership, I would never consider being quite so formal. If you feel that "Hello" is too informal, I think it is better to start the letter with no salutation whatsoever.
