I think this sounds better. At least when it come to programming of PLCs, this the technical term. sure about that!!!

SFC ist eine Programmiersprache für SPSen, die sich besonders eignet um Schrittketten zu programmieren.
SFC ist daher keine richtige Übersetzung für Schrittkette.
Gefühlsmäßig gefällt mir "Sequencer" ab besten, da hier deutlich wird, das es um einen Ablauf geht.
Wikipedia nennt die Übersetzung Sequential control

IEC 61131

The IEC 61131 uses the term 'Ablaufkette' and not 'Schrittkette'. If you think about it logically, you will see that the sequences are not only made up of steps, but also have transitions in them. One really does need to know a little about what one is translating. That is why it is wrong to speak about step chains because the chains are not made up of steps alone. They do not really exist. What you really mean is a chain of sequences (steps and transitions), which is a sequence chain.
