Ignore "erwartungswert" - that was accidental.

Waffling really means going back and forth on a topic without coming to a conclusion. BS is probably right on, but you could also say, coll.: 'a lot of blah, blah goes on at these meetings', meaning a lot of talk with nothing said.

Just looked it up in the dictionary and found that in American English it means "to be indecisive". Would be interesting to know whether this is really one of those words with
different meanings (UK-US usage). Can anybody help?

Not "turgid statements". "Empty talk" is more polite, less expressive.
"bullshit" is not quite fitting, as that refers to incorrect facts, not the lack of them.
