seasons greetings --> season's greetings

First time I've heard that season's greetings only refer to the time up to the 24th (does anyone actually say "vorweihnachtliche Grüße" or "pre-Christmas greetings?). The greetings don't apply after the 24th? Maybe I'm just being a little dense - never mind.

If somebody sent me "pre-Christmas greetings", I'd assume maybe they didn't care whether I actually enjoyed Christmas, I'd find it rather odd anyway.

The pre-Christmas season is called Advent, hence my # 5.

There is a difference between Advent and Christmas, between expectation and the actual event. There are different carols for both.

Mikefm, when I send Advent greetings, I still want the recipient to enjoy Christmas, but I will write once again to express that.

Also, where I have lived (several states in the western US), "Advent" is only very vaguely understood and hardly acknowledged (if at all).

Ende November/Anfang Dezember würde ich keine Weihnachtsgrüße versenden (also z. B. als Gruß unter die E-mail). Da "adventliche Grüße" eigentlich nicht existiert, gibt es eben die Vorweihnachtsgrüße.

So ab 15. Dezember würde ich anfangen und meine Mails mit "richtigen" Weihnachtsgrüßen beschließen.

That probably applies to only a small proportion of native English speakers, primarily believing Christians. To (most of) the rest of us, as #12 says, "Advent" is only very vaguely understood and hardly acknowledged (if at all).
