ein "hübsches Anhängsel", vielleicht?

Ich habe "Trophäenfrau" schon gehört, halte es aber für einen Übersetzungsversuch, wahrscheinlich aus Wortfindungsnot. Manche sagen auch einfach 'Gattin' oder 'Berufsgattin', aber das trifft es nur teilweise

"trophy wife" ist eine tolle Frau, die nur derjenige als Trophäe heimtragen darf, der genug Geld/Status/Macht/Ruhm hat. Die deutsche Übersetzung müsste also klar machen, das es sich nicht um eine drittklassige Schlampe handelt und dass der Besitzer auch mit ihr verheiratet ist. "Luxusweibchen" macht die Frau etwas zu klein. Mit einem "Trophy wife" kann der Mann echt angeben, ein Luxusweibchen dagegen kann ihm schon mal peinlich sein :-)

Eine 'trophy wife' ist a) deutlich jünger als ihr Ehemann, b) bildhübsch, aber c) nicht unbedingt sehr intelligent (zumindest beinhaltet das der Begriff nicht)

Bin nicht sicher, ob "trophy wifes" unbedingt automatisch doof sein müssen - aber wegen ihres hohen IQs werden sie sicherlich nicht geehelicht :-)

Ich glaube, ich würde den Begriff nicht übersetzen. Aber wenn, dann wäre "Vorzeigefrau" mein Favorit. "Vorzeigefrau" schließt zumindest nicht eine gewisse Klasse von vorneherein aus, die ein trophy wife ja durchaus haben kann.

"Vorzeigefrau" im positiven Sinne ist Gabrielle von den housewives ja weniger, also wäre wohl eher der Typ Verona Feldbusch/Poth passend, als Art "Boxenluder" oder "Spielerfrau"

Das Problem ist wohl immer, damit deutlich zu machen, dass es sich um eine Ehefrau handelt.

Ist bestimmt nicht so verbreitet wie Vorzeige-Ehefrau. Aber eine Kollegin von mir hat das mal benutzt, ich wusste sofort, was sie meint und benutze das Wort seitdem auch - es leuchtet immer sofort ein und originell ist es auch.

Und für den klassischen Kostümchen-Pumps-Perlohrringe-Typ hab ich bei Juristenfreunden auch schon oft das Wort "Perlhuhn" gehört. Das geht aber nur bei trophy wives, die entsprechend gestylt sind.

Inspiration (#5) hats genau getroffen. Nicht unbedingt nur huebsch. Kommt hauptsaechlich darauf an, in welchen Kreisen sie ‘vorzeigbar” ist. Fuer manche Maenner (akademische Moechtegerns?)waere zB eine hochintellektuelle Frau eine “trophy” –kommt nur darauf an, wen der (Ehe-) Mann mit seinem “Anhaengsel” beeindrucken will

re #16: I'm not so convinced.

penguin listed the most important criteria in #8. I would say, at least 15 or 20 years younger; stunningly attractive (not just pretty or cute), poised and elegant; and expensive-looking -- stylish, wearing designer clothes, etc. And flattered, or apparently so, to be displayed on her husband's arm.

Such a person of course could (theoretically) be fairly intelligent or have a high-powered job, but it seems relatively unlikely. Middle-aged male academics are as susceptible as other men to sex and status symbols. If a 50-something professor got divorced and acquired a trophy wife (much as men are said to buy red sports cars at that age), she would have to be younger and beautiful. She could also be an academic, but she would probably be a clearly subordinate one, lower down in the hierarchy and very possibly not as intelligent. That is, intellectual, welll; surely not highly intellectual.

I like several of the German suggestions too. Are any of them eligible for related discussion: eigenwillige Bezeichnungen, Wortkreationen ?

Surely, if she is the “trophy”, HE is the one who should feel “flattered” at being seen to display the trophy. on his arm. "A marker of his status" (who said that? Sorry, but i haven't figured out yet how to reply while referring back to the postings) -- yes: I think that’s the whole point. But the goalposts can shift, depending on the kind of trophy that needs to be displayed and the status to be defended. So, for instance, a would-be academic can indeed seek the “trophy” of a highly intellectual partner -- even one more successful than himself -- just as long as she is clearly “in his possession”. Inspiration's "Vorzeigefrau" (again I can't refer back to find the number of this posting) presses all the right buttons for me -- it's as ambiguous in German as it is in English

Klingt eine Spur ironischer als "Vorzeigefrau" und macht gleichzeitig klar, die Trophäe ist angeheiratet.

In meinen Ohren klingt "trophy-wife" fast ein bisschen wie "Wanderpokal", wenn auch nicht so herablassend. Aber ich habe den Eindruck, es geht nicht um die Person, sondern eher um das Objekt.

Natürlich könnte man es dann in einem gewissen Zusammenhang mit "(blonde / langbeinige / vollbusige / Gold behangene / mit Klunkern bestückte etc.) Trophäe" übersetzen. Das richtige Adjektiv macht es eindeutig, betont den Objekt-Charakter und würde gleichzeitig gewisse Wertung vornehmen.

Unter Umständen könnte manes auch als "seine neueste Erwerbung" übersetzen.
