I'm not sure about TV moderators, though.

Thanks Helmi, but I'm looking for the specific term to describe the small cards you prepare in advance. For example to guide you beeing the trainer trough a workshop exercise or a teamwork session

Am I on the right lines?
I.e. the child wrote out prompt cards in advance in order to help him deliver his presentation correctly

We use cue cards in English language teaching. I presume this is the most appropriate word here.

In drama work you get a cue from a prompter.

He read the notes for his class presentation from index cards.

She is preparing for her presentation by writing her notes on index cards.

If you're looking for a generic term, I would go with index cards. These are what many people (students, lecturers, etc.) use when giving a presentation.

Note: A *real* moderator would definitely not refer to his/her cards as index cards. AFAIK, there is not really a clear name for these things; they would probably just be called cards (and more likely talked around: "I have here in front of me information.... (looking at card)"). As stated, index cards are used by most non-professionals (and many professionals) since they are the perfect size and easy to get your hands on at damn near any discount store in the US.

(realize this is several years old, but maybe it will help someone)

Vorschlagcard (not prompt card or cue card)

Hi Everyone - I work as a trainer and facilitator and as a translator. There isn't a translation for "Moderationskarte" - it's not a prompt card or cue card. Prompt or cue cards would be if the person was giving a presentation and reading from the cards or using the cards to remind him/her what they were planning to say. This is a bit different.

Trainers and facilitators in Germany use rectangular or circular cards to collect ideas from the participants/answer questions/direct discussions (among other things). These cards get pinned on pin boards that are at the front of the room or placed on the floor. They have nothing to do with preparing for a speech or presentation. Index cards are Karteikarten - not the same thing. Facilitation card might be ok, but it's not something in common use in US English (I think it's because we simply don't use these cards when leading trainings - the closest method I've seen to using "Moderationskarten" in US trainings would be sticky notes or Post-It notes).
