When I was a kid, Catholics in the United States lived in what was a little bit like a ghetto. We tended to keep to ourselves. We erected a "wall of separation" from the outside world by means of Catholic schools and colleges, a vigorous Catholic press, many Catholic societies at the parish level, and so on.
Is there a similar phrase in German?
    Thank you.
