The socio-political platform of presidential candidate X is horrible.

But I think sometimes socio-political is sometimes best translated as "gesellschaftlich" in terms of politics.
The socio-political consequences of this reform would be enormous.

Policy und politics haben nicht die gleiche Bedeutung.
Politics ist Politik im engeren Sinne mit Parteien und allem was dazu gehört.
Policy ist die Politik wie sie zB bei dem Wort "Unternehmenspolitk" verstanden wird, also ein Plan zur Erreichung von Zielen.
