Otherwise known as village fairs, village fêtes are places where the various groups within the village erect stalls, selling a variety of stuff, offering games with prizes for the winners and generally trying to extract as much money as possible from the punters.

fête should be spelt with the circumflex in place, although it has disappeared in many forms of computer setting.

Wenn man hier in England uebers Land faehrt, sieht man haeufig handgemalte Schilder, die fuer das naechste Dorffest Werbung machen: village fete (meist ohne circumflex...)
