    kontra diktorische Vernehmung

    Quellen
A concept that is the talk of the town now while the Fritzl case is being tried in Austria (questioning of a victim-witness being videotaped, but with Prosection and Defence being present for cross-examining the witness)
    Kommentar
Has anyone read in English newspapers or heard in the TV news how this procedure is called in English?

This apparently is an Austrian term, but isn't what you describe usually called 'cross-examination'?

If you write the term in one word, as it should be, you will at least get a LEO result that has something to do with law issues:

    Siehe Wörterbuch: kontradiktorisch*

(Sorry, don't know anything about these matters myself, so I can't explain any further).

The idea is not to expose the victims to the court situation (public, yellow press etc.); so in that respect it's different from what one would usually call "cross examination".
"Kontadiktorisch" however indicates that - very much like in a traditional cross examination - prosecution and defence are present and have an opportunity to ask the questions they consider necessary.
