    kurzweilig (opposite of boring)

Participants so far have found the study [adj.] . or:
Participants so far have [verb] the study.

We're conducting a study for which we have to recruit human participants. While many other studies consist entirely in filling out paperwork (surveys etc.), ours has an interactive component (participants talk to someone else). While I don't want to over-emphasize that, I want to mention that participants so far have found the study "kurzweilig" or whatever... they didn't "hate it" or get entirely bored. ;-)

Leo suggests entertaining, diverting or amusing. That's not quite what I'd use for a study. The idea is that participation in a study will probably never qualify as a recreational activity... but I'm trying to say that ours is not quite as bad as others. :-)

...found the study being not boring at all. Now the reader can fill in what that means. :-))

@ Weißkittel: So, wie Du die Angelegenheit beschreibst, meine ich, daß es zutreffend wäre, den Vorgang als 'nicht langweilig/langweilend' zu bezeichnen . . .

Ergo: 'not (at all) boring' . . .

Would there be some "neutral to positive" word in English that doesn't sound over the top? In German I'd use "kurzweilig" (even though kurzweilig *can* be much more fun)... but I guess there must be something in English too?

Regarding "boring", there's this tiny difference between thinking self-critically that it's probably "not boring"... and the knowledge that you shouldn't advertise with negatives because that makes people think of those negatives. (It's like advertising for a new detergent "that doesn't stink"... and oops, there it is, a strong connotation of the detergent brand name and stinking.)

Can "agreeable" be used with study experiences? That and "interesting" are so far on my short-list...

    maybe fitting:
participants found the study worthwhile, useful
    or:
Participants reacted positively towards the study /
they displayed a positive attitude towards the study/survey.

(not really a literal translation for kurzweilig, but maybe close to what you are looking for)

    ... wie wäre dann: 'even interesting' ? . . .

Meine Wahl wäre: 'not only not boring but even interesting' . . .

Wasn't there this German line: Greif mal nem nackten Seemann in die Tasche?

IMO all these spasmodic attempts don't apply to a "study", one can slice it, dice it or puree it. It simply remains "not boring." :-)))
