A swear jar is usually set up in a home or work where they are trying to clean up everyone's language and stop the cursing and swearing. Any time anyone utters one of the offensive words they must pay money into the swear jar. The group that sets up the jar defines the penalty for swearing, so in a home with kids it might be a quarter a word, maybe at work it is $1, $5 or $10 a word. It is set high enough for it to financially affect the person if the swearing continues, but one or two slipped words won't bankrupt them.

I am not quite sure why the person wrote what they did in that forum. I assume they were swearing up a storm when they were banned and are taking the $10 penalty and distributing it to someone else to play in their place. I guess you can keep the winnings because if he put the money in the swear jar it is lost to him.

At home and offices, the money in the swear jar might be used for something for everyone to do together or they might decide on a charity to give it to.

In dem Zusammenhang würde ich es eher mit "Wiedergutmachung" oder "Friedensangebot" oder ganz einfach "Entschuldigung" übersetzen. Ist bildlich aber etwas lahm, verglichen mit "swear jar". "Friedenspfeife" ist schon etwas belebter.

...kasse oder ...schwein (im Sinne von Sparschwein) sind auch gebräuchlich, z.B. Chauvikasse, Phrasenschwein oder dergleichen.
